1948 Cadillac
Hearse by A.J. Miller

1948 Cadillac Hearse
Meet the Schildmeyers!

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schildmeyer, along with sons Larry and Terry, proudly display their fully restored 1948 Cadillac Hearse at the open house and dedication ceremony of their newest funeral home in Blanchester, Ohio.

Mr. and Mrs. Schildmeyer came to Lowell and bought this coach while it was still in it’s dark gray color, that was originally called Thundercloud, by A.J. Miller. All of the Schildmeyer’s modern coaches are dark blue with black vinyl roofs, so that is how this coach was restored. Even the interior color was changed to a lighter blue color with silver-gray inserts. It is a beautiful combination.

Recently, the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home had a request to use the 1948 hearse, at a service for a monsignor at the downtown cathedral in Cincinnati. As you would expect, Mr. Schildmeyer was very worried about someone damaging his coach in the big city traffic. Well, they used the coach and it performed well in the city and on the long journey to the cemetery on the northeast side of Cincinnati. However, when they went to put the coach back in it’s garage in Blanchester, the fuel pump gave-out. Everyone was thankful that this did not occur during the procession!

You Can't Take It With You...

Recently, Grand Rapids based Zondervan Publishing Company, used one of our hearses for a very special project.  They heaped-up some of life's prized possessions on the roof, to help introduce a new book by John Ortberg, entitled "When The Game Is Over, It All Goes Back In The Box."  The book tells of life lessons taught by the author's Grandmother, while playing board games.  John uses popular culture, a sense of humor and a gift for compelling storytelling to help us live more meaningful lives.  Additional information about his new book can be found at johnortberg.com
