From Days Gone By...

Quebec, Canada, June 4th, 1914 - Hearses waiting in front of the English Cathedral during the funeral of twelve Empress of Ireland victims.  The Empress sank on the morning of May 29th, 1914, while steaming on the Saint Lawrence River.  Unfortunately, in the fog, it was struck by the Norwegian coal freighter, the SS Storstad.  This accident claimed 1,012 lives, making it the worst maritime disaster in Canadian history.
